How Your Exhaust System Works

Your auto exhaust system can be compared to a chimney in a house, funneling smoke outside and away from the house’s occupants. In addition, the exhaust system controls noise, and the catalytic converter controls harmful emissions produced by burning fuel. The exhaust system also provides “back pressure,” which is required by the engine to improve fuel burning efficiency and increase low RPM performance.
